Garden Club of America Montine M. Freeman Scholarship in Native Plant Studies

Description

To encourage the understanding, development and use of underutilized native plants. Established to encourage the development of research, documentation, and teaching skills in the field of horticulture. Funds one or more scholarships annually at a minimum of $3000 to support study at an accredited college, university, or major botanic garden or arboretum. Projects may include, but are not restricted to, plant propagation, and the acquisition of skills for working with native plant collections, including techniques for incorporating them in managed landscapes. Photographic and written documentation of studies and research projects may be considered. Open to college undergraduates and graduate students, advanced degree candidates, or non- degree-seeking applicants above the high school level. Eligibility is open to U.S. Citizens and permanent residents who are enrolled in a U.S.-based institution. Applications must be submitted electronically or sent by mail to be received at GCA Headquarters in New York City. Please provide two letters of recommendation. One should include comments on your academic progress and achievement, personal qualities, and eligibility for the program you have selected. The other should include information on the program you have selected and assurance that you have applied and can be accepted. Electronic copies of the letters of recommendation should be attached below and must be signed by the individual writing the letter, or sent to us directly from their email. If reference desires to send directly to the GCA, please have s/he mail or email the letter to the addresses listed.
