The Harold Powers World Travel Fund honors the polymathic scholar and distinguished AMS member, Harold Powers, whose publications ranged from music and language to medieval mode to Indian music to Puccini, and whose interests were wider still, but always with the communicative aspects of music at their base. The grant is given annually to one or more doctoral students at or PhD graduates of North American universities to conduct doctoral or post-doctoral musicological research in all fields of musical scholarship and throughout the world. If they seek to conduct research for their dissertation, applicants must have completed all other requirements for the PhD. If they seek to conduct post-doctoral research, they should have completed the PhD within the past five years. Preference will be given to applicants whose home institutions do not offer financial support for musicological research. Applicants may apply for multiple awards using the same form submission. Funds awarded in 2026 must be applied to travel/research undertaken between 1 May 2026 and 30 April 2027.
