Brandywine Dissertation Fellowship

Description

The Hagley Library's Brandywine Dissertation Fellowship is designed for graduate students who are actively working on their dissertation. A residential fellowship for three to four months duration, it provides a stipend and free housing on Hagley's grounds along with an office and other amenities. Brandywine Dissertation fellows are expected to work at Hagley at least four days weekly and to participate in events organized by Hagley's Center for the History of Business, Technology, and Society. Applicants must be PhD candidates whose research on important historical questions uses Hagley's research collections. Applications should demonstrate superior intellectual quality, present a persuasive methodology, and show that the dissertation makes significant use of Hagley research materials. Research in Hagley's collections may take place prior to the fellowship residency. Potential applicants are strongly encouraged to consult with Hagley reference staff prior to submitting their dossier. All application materials must be submitted in the following order in one PDF file through the online application link as indicated: Project abstract; Curriculum Vitae; Dissertation proposal or a project description indicating the scope of the research and the existing scholarship with which the student will engage; Summary of the Hagley research materials that will be used in the dissertation and how they are pertinent to the project; and it is optional but applicants may include a writing sample if they feel it will help the committee to evaluate their dissertation research. Please visit the fellowship's website for more information.
