Ho'oulu Scholarship Fund

Description

Recognizing that college is not always linear, the Steele siblings established the Ho'oulu Scholarship Fund in 2014, to support those who "stopped out" of college but are now ready to complete their college education. Their intent is to support Pacific Islander students, including Hawaiians. The donor requires applicants to be a resident of the State of Hawai'i or a Pacific Island nation. The donor also requires applicants to be a former student who has completed at least one year of college progress potentially towards degree completion, then "stopped out" for at least one year, and is now returning to actively pursue a college degree. Preference will be given to recipients who were awarded in the immediate prior year if such recipient continues to meet the eligibility requirements and is in good academic standing. Primary preference is for students from Samoa or of Samoan ethnicity. Secondary preference is for students from another Pacific Island nation or ethnicity, including Hawaiian. List of Pacific Island Nations/ethnicity includes: (1) Melanesia: including Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu. (2) Micronesia: including Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia (Caroline Islands, Chuuk, Pohnpei), Nauru, Palau, and Wake Island. (3) Polynesia: American Samoa, Easter Island/Rapa Nui, French Polynesia, Hawaii, New Zealand, Niue, Samoa, Tonga, Tuvalu. Please visit the scholarship's website or contact the Hawai'i Community Foundation for more information.
