NASA's Virginia Space Grant Consortium Graduate STEM Research Fellowships

Description

The Virginia Space Grant Consortium Graduate Research STEM Fellowship Program provides fellowships in add-on support to graduate students to supplement and enhance basic research support. Applicants must be enrolled in a program of study STEM and have a specific faculty-mentored research project that has NASA or aerospace relevance. Allied Health Sciences majors are not eligible for this program. Applicants must be conducting research that supports NASA's mission; must be receiving matching funds of at least $6,000 from their academic institution; and must be enrolled at one of the Virginia Space Grant Consortium member institutions. Applicants must submit a Research Proposal aligned with NASA's mission. VSGC's graduate STEM Research Scholarship Program encourages talented graduate majors to do STEM research with a strong alignment with NASA's Mission Directorates. Applicants should submit a proposal for research that clearly describes the research objective and methodology. A statement written by the student in consultation with the faculty advisor should describe the key elements of the proposed research and plan of study. All research projects must be mentored by a faculty member and this mentor will be required to submit a letter of reference for the project. Applicants will be asked to specifically identify how their research relates to their choice of NASA's Mission Directorates. Letters of Recommendation are also required. Applicants must provide the names and contact information for two references of which one must be the applicant's current faculty advisor. Letters of recommendation should assess the applicant's potential as well as their progress and academic achievements. Renewal applicants must reapply for the second award. They should submit a review of the results of their previous award as well as a proposal for the next steps in your research clearly describing the research objective and methodology. A statement written by the student in consultation with the faculty advisor should describe the key elements of the proposed research and plan of study. All research projects must be mentored by a faculty member and this mentor will be required to submit a progress report Applicants will be asked to specifically identify how their research relates to a NASA Mission Directorate.
