Nursing Teacher Stipend Forgivable Loan, MSN

Description

The Nursing Teacher Stipend Forgivable Loan will be awarded to provide educational opportunities to students who wish to continue their nursing education and to address Mississippi's nurse educator shortage by providing a constant source of qualified nurse educators. The loan debt can be forgiven on the basis of two years of full-time teaching service for one year of forgivable loan received; four years of 0.50 FT (total) part-time/adjunct teaching for one year of forgivable loan received; and eight years of 0.25 FTE (total) part-time/adjunct teaching for one year of forgivable loan received at an accredited school of nursing in the State of Mississippi. Awards are made on a first-come, first-served basis, as funding is available. However, priority is given to eligible renewal applicants. Applicants must be a legal resident of the State of Mississippi for one year prior to application. They must be fully admitted and enroll in a first master's of science in nursing program at an eligible accredited School of Nursing. They must hold a current, valid Mississippi nursing license. Applicants must also participate in the Nursing Education Forgivable Loan Program (NELM) while pursuing the MSN degree. They must agree to teach in an accredited school of nursing in the State of Mississippi upon degree completion. Applicants must have not received and are not currently receiving funds from the Rural Health Program and are not currently in default or delinquent on any federal, state, or local educational loan. New applicants must provide a letter of recommendation from the dean or director of a program of nursing with an accompanying letter of stated intended employment upon completion of the program of study. New applicants and some renewal applicants with a break in enrollment will be required to submit two forms of residency documentation. Preferred residency documents are FAFSA and Mississippi driver's license. Alternate residency documents that may be accepted are: State Tax Return (not Federal) for the current tax filing year; Homestead Exemption; Voter Registration; or Vehicle Registration. Please visit the award's website or contact the Mississippi Office of Student Financial Aid for more information.
