Voice is one of 10 artistic disciplines in YoungArts' national competition. This discipline encompasses all voice genres. Applicants may either be a citizen of the United States, a permanent resident/green card recipient, or someone who can demonstrate that they are legally able to receive taxable income in the United States. Applicants must also be in grades 10-12 or 15-18 years of age on December 1 of the year they are applying. YoungArts welcomes applications from vocalists who demonstrate their abilities through the performance of repertoire from any genre and style. Applicants must submit three individual digital video recordings of the applicant's choosing. They must indicate the genre/style that best represents them as a vocal performer in the appropriate field within the application. It is recommended that the applicant selects pieces that are contrasting in nature, such as a mixture of different tempos, timeframes, languages, etc. as appropriate for their genre and style. All audition submissions should be performed from memory, without sheet music. Please sing through the full form of the song, eliminating overly long intros and excessive repetition of choruses. Singers who perform their own original music, must refer to the Music Creator requirements. YoungArts welcomes applications from vocalists who demonstrate their abilities through the performance of originally composed songs from all popular music styles. Applicants must submit completely original song selections (words and music) in any style. Both lyrics and music must be 100 percent completely original and written by the applicant (no co-writes or computer-assisted writing permitted). Applicants must submit three individual digital video recordings: Performance of three original songs in English. Self-produced tracks may be used. Tracks must be 100 percent originally produced by the applicant and may not include any unlicensed samples. A minimum of one selection out of the three songs submitted is required to be self-accompanied in real time. A PDF document of the lyrics for each of the songs is also required.
