Graduate Studies at SUNY Polytechnic Institute

SUNY Polytechnic Institute (SUNY Poly), ranked #3 Top Public Universities North in the 2018 College Rankings by U.S. News & World Report, offers more than a dozen degrees, many in fields with increasing demand. Programs are available full- or part-time, with several online options, including the MBA and select MS degrees.

SUNY Poly is ranked number one in the nation in higher education research and development funding by businesses, ahead of such well-respected institutions as Duke University (#2), MIT (#3) and Stanford (#7), according to the National Science Foundation.

Graduate Programs of Study

SUNY Poly’s Utica Campus offers eight master's degree programs and three certificate programs on-campus and online. SUNY Poly’s Albany Campus offers two master's degree programs, two PhD programs, and one MD/PhD dual degree program.

The MS in Accountancy (AACSB accredited) degree program, available fully online, is designed for students looking to increase their knowledge in the accounting field to either advance in their professional careers or to qualify to sit for the CPA exam. It has been ranked 5th in the nation by CollegeChoice.net and 9th nationwide among the most affordable online programs by BestColleges.com. SUNY Poly also offer a specialization in the rapidly growing field of forensic accounting and valuation.

The MS in Computer and Information Science degree program provides students a strong theoretical and application-oriented education, coupled with a specialization in software engineering, systems and architectures, algorithms and theory, and/or artificial intelligence and modeling.

The MS in Family Nurse Practitioner degree program prepares expert advanced practice primary care clinicians capable of providing care to families in primary care settings including pediatrics, family health, women's health, and gerontologial care.

The MS in Information Design and Technology degree program, available fully online offers an interdisciplinary examination of the role of digital information and emerging media within contemporary culture and communication. Emphasis is placed on the social and cultural impact and potential of new information technologies through historical perspective, technical exposure and design instruction.

The MS and PhD in Nanoscale Science degree programs provide the critical theoretical and experimental skill base and know-how for knowledge creation in the areas of nanoscale materials, structures, and architectures.

The MS and PhD in Nanoscale Engineering degree programs provide corresponding skill and expertise in the design, fabrication, and integration of nanoscale devices, structures, and systems for the development and deployment of emerging nanotechnologies.

The MS in Network and Computer Security degree program offers students a cutting-edge curriculum in the field of cybersecurity focusing on practical security in networking and computing. Graduates are prepared for management and technical positions in the fields of cybersecurity research and IT security management.

The MS in Nursing Education degree program, available fully online, promotes the core application of theory, research, and health care policy to the role of the nurse educator within the academic and in-service settings. Graduates are employed as nursing faculty members at two and four year colleges, as well as in other healthcare settings.

The MS in Systems Engineering degree program provides students with a thorough understanding of the systems engineering process throughout the entire life cycle, and how to improve it. Graduates of this program will go on to rewarding careers in the field with job titles such as chief engineer, system engineer, project engineer, and program manager

The MBA in Technology Management (AACSB accredited) degree program, available fully online, combines a rigorous study of management topics with a unique focus on technology and innovation management. Students specialize in accounting and finance, human resource management, health informatics, marketing management, or general business management.

SUNY Poly also offers Certificate of Advanced Study programs in computational mathematical modeling, data analysis, family nurse practitioner, and nursing education.

Cost of Graduate Study

With affordable SUNY tuition, SUNY Poly provides an exceptional value. Based on 9 credit hours, tuition for New York State residents is $4,077 per semester, or $453 per credit hour. Out of state tuition is $8,325 per semester, or $925 per credit hour. Tuition for the MBA degree program for New York State residents is $5,517 per semester, or $613 per credit hour. MBA degree program out of state tuition is $9,144 per semester, or $1,016 per credit hour.

Financial aid

Over 60 graduate assistantships are awarded each fall to select full-time graduate students who have been formally admitted to a degree program. Graduate assistantship positions include research assistant, teaching assistant, lab assistant, program assistant, and information technology services assistant.

A limited number of SUNY Graduate Diversity Fellowships are awarded each academic year to full-time graduate students who qualify for admission with a minimum GPA of 3.0 or better, and who demonstrate their contribution of diversity to their academic program. The award may include a partial to full-tuition waiver and a cash stipend for the academic year.

Location

SUNY Poly's beautiful, tree-lined campus in Utica, New York is nestled in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains and conveniently located near NYS Thruway Exit 31. The campus has expanded over the last few years to include a new student center, athletic facilities, and residence hall.

SUNY Poly’s Albany Campus is located in Albany, New York. The bright, modern and spacious NanoTech complex houses state-of-the-art labs, cleanrooms, classrooms, offices and research facilities. Students study in graduate offices close to faculty members' offices, fostering an environment of collaboration and one-on-one interaction.

Applying

Applicants to all graduate programs at SUNY Poly must hold baccalaureate degrees from accredited colleges or universities. Each graduate program has specific, additional admissions criteria and required application materials.

For most programs, application deadlines are: July 1 for fall semester admission and December 1 for spring semester admission. The "Family Nurse Practitioner" and "Network and Computer Security" degree programs only accept applications for fall entry. Application deadlines for these programs can be found on the SUNY Poly's Graduate Admissions webpage.
